About Zaakirah

I am an Educational Psychologist and a qualified educator. I have been practising since 2014.

In 2013 I created my own internship which was approved by the HPCSA which I received valuable training and exposure to working in a multi-disciplinary team. I have published an on “Primary school teachers’ perceptions of learning difficulties” for the Journal of Child and Adolescent Mental Health. I then presented my writing at the 16th Annual Congress of Psychology held by the Psychological Society of South African Association. Furthermore, I enjoy empowering educators by giving them the tools to deal with learners. The medium in which I deliver this is through educator workshops. In addition, I was employed by an NGO on behalf of the Department of Social Health to create a learner workbook to promote psychosocial skills and I conducted educator workshops for GDE.

I have lectured at the South African College of Applied Psychology on the module “trauma and crisis counselling” to undergraduate students. I have supervised the Masters of Educational Psychology students at the University of Witwatersrand on their assessment module. I was also invited as one of the speakers invited at the University of Witwatersrand to present at learning difficulties master class. I have done various television and radio shows on learning disabilities and issues such as bullying, studying skills, school readiness and anxiety.

I have also worked for numerous years for Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator whereby I helped young work seekers enter the world of work by helping them through interview skills, assessing them and at times therapy was needed for these candidates.

In terms of therapy, I work with the age 5 years to adults. My passion lies in trauma work and I am trained both with Brain Work Recursive Therapy and Trauma Inductive Reduction. I also work with anxiety and I have training in both with cognitive behaviour therapy and solution focus therapy.
